Advancing Food Equity in North Texas: Community-Academic Partnership as a Multi-sector Innovation Incubator
September 1, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Community-academic partnerships have the potential to foster innovation that extends beyond the original partnership. The Community Assistance Research (CARE) partnership in Dallas, Texas is one such example. We will describe CARE’s founding principles and hear from PIs on ongoing projects from diverse sectors and disciplines including no-prep meals for improving nutrition of food insecure populations both inside and outside the health system (Hollis-Hansen), culinary medicine integrated into clinical practice (Albin/Siler), and new food and financial coaching models to address economic insecurity among food insecure populations (Leonard). The panel will be moderated by Benaye Wadkins Chambers, President and CEO of Crossroads Community Services, the largest food assistance provider in Dallas, Texas.
