Invasive Animals in Your Landscape
July 15 @ 11:30 am - 12:00 pm
Free
Florida’s unique climate and ecosystems make it a hotspot for species introductions, including nonnative fish, birds, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles. While many introduced species fail to establish, some spread and become invasive, impacting native wildlife and habitats.
Join Dr. Steve Johnson, a tenured faculty member in the UF/IFAS Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation, for an in-depth exploration of Florida’s invasive terrestrial vertebrates, with a focus on amphibians and reptiles. Dr. Johnson will begin with an overview of several invasive mammals and birds before taking a deep dive into some of the state’s most common invasive amphibians and reptiles.
With extensive experience in wildlife conservation and natural history, Dr. Johnson has worked on numerous research initiatives, including the national Amphibian Research and Monitoring Initiative (ARMI). His insights will provide valuable knowledge on the effects of invasive species and what can be done to mitigate their impact.
