UF Wind Symphony Concert: “Wasbe Look Back, 1983”

February 22 @ 7:20 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

Join the UF Wind Symphony for our first concert of the semester: “WASBE Look Back, 1983.” Our program is a replica of the finale concert performed at the first W.A.S.B.E (World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles) Convention in Norway. Under the baton of Dr. David Waybright, Stan Hettinger and two other conductors, this 1983 finale concert was performed by musicians from colleges throughout New England, marking a convention that was the first of its kind in an international exchange of wind-band knowledge.

Our concert, which lands on Thursday, February 22nd, 2024, will be approximately 40 years after the initial concert. This reenactment is dedicated to Stan Hettinger, who passed in 1999. Our program includes wind band classics such as First Suite for Eb and Hammersmith by Gustav Holst, and The Black Horse Troop by John Philip Sousa. The concert will also feature “The Good Soldier Schweik Suite,” a work inspired by an anti-war satire novel and film.

Under the direction of Dr. Waybright, the Wind Symphony looks forward to sharing this program with you on Thursday, February 22nd at 7:20pm in the University Auditorium. Admission is FREE and the concert is open to the public.
