The UF Symphonic Band Presents: Vox Populi
March 11 @ 7:20 pm - 8:30 pm
Free
Mark your calendars for the University of Florida Symphonic Band on Tuesday, March 11th at 7:20pm in the University Auditorium.
The University of Florida Symphonic Band presents Vox Populi, “the voice of the people”, under the direction of Professor John M. Watkins, Jr. and graduate conductor Avi Kohan.
Starting with Richard Danielpour’s energetic Vox Populi, developed using traditional “classical” music techniques, but flavored with ideas and sounds and rhythms that are rooted in American popular music and jazz, the Symphonic Band will also present graduate conductor Avi Kohan conducting the timeless Elegy by John Barnes Chance, as well as the world premiere of a newly commissioned work by Aaron Israel Levin’s In Between, a story of what goes on in filmmaking between takes in a film noir style.
In this 100th anniversary year of Charles Ives, the Symphonic Band will present his ever-changing ‘Country Band’ March, featuring Ives’ unique adaptations of recognizable songs, along with Be Thou My Vision, a magical setting by the esteemed American composer David Gillingham and then Dancing Fire by contemporary composer Kevin Day. There is something for everyone in this concert!
We look forward to sharing this music with you on March 11th!
Admission is free to the public.
