Looking Ahead: The Politics of Florida & the 2022 Midterm Elections

April 19, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join the UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Initiative and the University of Florida Samuel Proctor Oral History Program for a webinar on the 2022 midterm elections, as we discuss the politics taking place in Florida. For the past two decades, Florida has been dominated by Republican politicians, yet the recent successful statewide referendums are evidence that voters in Florida are embracing progressive policies.

With ten democratic candidates running for Governor in 2022 and the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic by current Governor Ron DeSantis taking center stage on the platforms of candidates, the outcome of Florida’s 2022 midterm elections is bound to have national implications. To best way to understand the true implications of this election is through they eyes of community organizers on the ground mobilizing Floridian voters, elected officials witnessing the creation of new progressive policies, and candidates hoping to win over a historically Republican state. Join us for a discussion about the importance of uplifting the stories of Floridians during the 2022 midterms.
